The peer-to-peer range between any two Totems is around 730 meters, but our Unity Mesh Network extends that range for all Totems in the network, regardless of whether they are part of your group. Valid from the date of retail purchase for a period of ninety (90) days. In the case of a covered warranty defect, Totem will replace the product with an equivalent new product of verified quality.
Totem Products are built with outdoor live events in mind, and thus any functional defects that prevent them from operating in those settings are eligible for warranty coverage during the coverage period.
This warranty does not allow replacements for the following reasons:

Totems use GNSS to determine their locations, and then leverage our Unity Mesh Network™ to communicate that location to each other without any cell service, wifi, or bluetooth. Our software uses that data to determine the directional heading of your friends, and guides you in their direction using a ring of pretty lights. Read more on our blog.
Some buildings and metal structures can interfere with the Totem’s satellite connection, making it difficult to reliably navigate to peers. For this reason, the Totem Compass is best used outdoors.
Totems indicate the lateral direction of your friends, so they can't tell you when someone is above you or below you. It couldn't help you find what floor your tribe is on, but it could navigate to them if you were outside on the deck!
Although each Totem can only bond with four others, bonds don’t happen in a hard-paired circle. Each individual Totem can pair with any other four Totems. So if you are smart about how you spread the bonds around your group, you can easily make sure that everyone stays connected.
When a friend gets out of range, their peer light will dim and begin to breathe while it continues to point at their last known location. In most cases, walking in that direction will get you back in range so their peer light can update again based on your friend’s real-time location.
When you get around 50 meters from your friend, their peer light on your Totem will begin to gradually expand, telling you that they are close by. As you get closer, their light will continue to expand until you find them and unite once again.
Yes! Software updates will be rolled out periodically and are completely free to download. After you’ve scanned the QR code on the back of your Totem to get started, simply double-tap the SOS button while connected to your personal cellular Hotspot to begin your download.
Your Totem is built for outdoor events, so no need to worry about rain, sweat, or humidity. Just don’t go swimming with it—they are not designed to be submerged in water.
The Totem Compass is designed with your safety—and consent—in mind. Every Totem Compass contains a secure “key” that ensures people can only track you if you choose to Bond with them.
Totems use a secure, two-way Bonding process that requires mutual consent from both people simultaneously. Totems can only be bonded when they are right next to each other, and you can delete someone at any time using Peer Management Mode.
Functions like these, layered on top of the Totems’ secure keys, make it nearly impossible for anyone to track you without your consent or knowledge.

The Totem Compass does not use haptic feedback (vibration). Vibration is hard to sense when you're at an event or in a crowd, so we made the Totem communicate solely through light and color.
Yes! The Totem Compass uses a global constellation of satellites to determine its location, meaning that your Totem will work beautifully anywhere in the world (as long as you have a clear view of the sky). Their communication protocol broadcasts on 2.4GHz, one of the only frequencies legal in 100% of countries worldwide.
