The Totem Compass is our solution to a universal problem that nearly everyone on Earth has experienced at least once in their lives: getting lost!
Beyond that, the design of this festival compass was crafted to help usher in a new era of freedom.
Totems are small, stylish, and eye-catching. Worn on the chest and featuring vibrant lights and customizable colors, they have become a fashionable piece of “tech jewelry” (holy 2025!) 🎉
Totems pack impressive tech into their small, lightweight design. The Totem Compass uses GNSS, layered with a peer-to-peer communication protocol and our Unity Mesh Network™ to allow everyone to find their loved ones by simply following the pretty lights.
This blog will dive into how those pretty lights work. In this post, you will learn everything you need to know about Bond Lights and Colors on the Totem Compass. For more information on how the Totem Compass works, check out our blog post all about it!
The Order of your Bond Light Colors
Once you have successfully Bonded your Totem Compass with up to four others, you’ll notice that your festival compass assigns a Bond Color to your friends based on the order you bond with them.
For a full rundown on How To Bond Your Totem Compass, we’ve got a separate blog post dedicated to that.
Your first bond is always pink. 🩷
Your second bond is always green. 💚
Your third bond is always blue. 💙
And your fourth bond is always yellow. 💛
When you remove Bonds from your Totem, future Bonds will be added back in the same color order. If you want to learn about Removing Bonds on your Totem Compass, we have a video tutorial just for you.
What Happens when you Bond your Totems
Because Bond colors are determined by order, you could be a different color on different friends' Totems. It just depends on the order in which they bonded with you.
It can be helpful to make a note of which color each friend is, so you will have no problem finding them again later!
You can always check which bond color is assigned to your friends. Simply move both Totems together so they're almost touching, and your Touch Crystal will show you what color that friend's bond light is.
Here's what checking your Bond Colors looks like:
Bond Light Colors ≠ Touch Crystal Colors
It is important to remember that the Bond Light, whether it be on your Totem or your friend's Totem, won't always match your Touch Crystal color.
This is because you can change the Touch Crystal color on your rave compass at any time to match your vibe — there are 11 different vibes to choose from, in fact! To learn more about Changing your Touch Crystal Colors, check out our video tutorial!
The Touch Crystal color is completely independent of the four Bond Light colors, which are ALWAYS going to be pink 🩷, then green 💚, then blue 💙, then yellow 💛.
A Quick Note on Collecting
One last important thing to keep in mind when it comes to Bond Lights and Colors — whenever you add a new bond, their light will automatically collect into your festival compass Touch Crystal after your bonding is complete.
This is because you’re immediately within range of the friend you’re trying to navigate to, so don’t be alarmed if they don’t have a Bond Light on your Halo right away! See below where these Totems become each other's Pink and are collected right away.
Once that friend moves farther away from you, their Bond Light will move into your Halo, and you can begin navigating to them! 30 meters should be enough for your friend's bond light to jump out of your Touch Crystal and onto your Halo.
Finding Connection Through Beauty and Light
Beauty is one of Totem’s Four Core Values. We believe that everyone deserves a beautiful life. As a rule: everything we do, everything we build, must make the world a more beautiful place.
Functionality and style should go hand in hand, and Bond Lights and Colors on the Totem Compass exemplify this core value. They are more than just indicators—they allow you to finally put the screens away and connect with people on a genuine human level during life's most beautiful moments.
The Totem Compass turns what could be a stressful moment — feeling lost — into an elegant, meaningful experience.
With the ability to customize and explore a world of lights and colors, Totem makes finding your way not just practical but beautiful. After all, the best technology doesn’t just serve a purpose—it enhances the moments we share, turning them into memories we’ll cherish for a lifetime.
Stay tuned for future tutorials, and as always, let the lights guide you!
