Totem Tuesday: October 30th, 2024
Hey fam—
Welcome to another very special
Rollout Edition
of everyone's favorite startup newsletter...
🎉 TOTEM TUESDAY 🎉
(a party for the inbox, since November 2023)
This is perhaps the most special edition of them all...
Because this is the last Totem Tuesday that will EVER BE SENT before shipping officially begins.
🎉🥳🎉
We simply CANNOT WAIT for you to get your Totems soon. Our whole Team is absolutely buzzing—I bet you are too. 😆
So, without further ado, let's get into the good stuff!
During this Rollout phase, we are keeping things focused and simple here on Totem Tuesday.
First, we start with Rollout Updates.
Then, we'll teach you all about the 5 parts of the Totem Compass User Interface, so you can be a proper Totem Pro when your order arrives.
Ready?
Here we go!
😘
1) ⬇️ Rollout Update ⬇️
Our first units have arrived from our manufacturer! With that in mind, we expect shipping to begin for the first pre-orders within the next week. It's time to get excited! 😍
Once shipping begins, all pre-orders (regardless of their place in the Shipping Queue) are forecasted to ship within 30 days.
The Shipping Queue is prioritized by chronological order. The first pre-orders will be the first shipments to leave our 3PL.
We will continue communicating fresh Rollout Updates every week right here on Totem Tuesday. Additionally, we are sending out email updates to customers every Friday about the status of individual orders.

2) 🫶 Payment Processing 🫶
There are still some Tribemates who have not paid for their pre-order yet. If you are one of those people, you will receive one last invoice tomorrow, October 30th.
If you do not pay this week, your order will be delayed.
Here's how to pay: click the "Pay Now" button in the email titled: "Totem Compass: pay for your order today" which will be sent tomorrow, Wednesday, October 30th. If you don't receive this email, then your order is already paid up. 🫶
If you need help, you can begin a conversation with our customer service team by interacting with the Totem Chat on our website.
3) 🎓 Totem University is Live! 🎓
Let me tell you about the easiest (and most fun) university degree in the entire world...
It's called Totem University.
In less than 30 minutes, it will teach you everything there is to know about operating your Totem Compass.
You'll learn everything about your Totem Compass: from the User Interface, Bonding, Navigating, SOS, and more.
Check out Totem University here!
🤗
...
OK! That's all the news for this week.
Are you ready to resume your Totem Compass training?
Let’s turn you into a Totem Pro.
This week's topic is a very important one: the User Interface 💠
So important, in fact, that we are giving you a 5-part tutorial this week!
We'll teach you all about Tilt, the Touch Crystal, your Totem's Halo, the Power Button, and the SOS button.
Let’s go, Tribe!

Your Totem Compass User Interface
1) Tilt: Vibe Mode vs Compass Mode
To work the Totem Compass, you need to know about 5 things.
The first thing to know about is Tilt.
Just like your phone, your Totem can tell when you pick it up.
That's really important because certain things only happen in vertical or horizontal orientations.
Vertical orientation is called Vibe Mode. When your Totem is hanging vertically, it can:
- Vibe to the sounds around you
- Enter/exit Eco Mode
- Show an SOS alert on the Touch Crystal.
Everything else—navigation, bonding, crystal color changes—happens when your Totem Compass is in horizontal orientation. We call that horizontal orientation Compass Mode.
2) Touch Crystal
The Touch Crystal is your hub for managing all your Bonds. The Touch Crystal can only be used when your Totem is in horizontal orientation.
The Touch Crystal has 3 key functions:
1. Adding Bonds (press and hold)
2. Removing Bonds (triple-tap, then press and hold)
3. Changing the Touch Crystal Color (single-tap)
3) The Totem Halo
The Totem Halo is the ring of light that goes around your Totem's face. When your Totem Compass is hanging vertically, the Halo vibes to the sounds around you.
When your Totem is in horizontal orientation (Compass Mode) the Halo shows you the direction and distance of your Bonds.
The Halo also communicates other things, including the current battery level whenever you turn on your Totem Compass.
4) Power Button
Now let's take a look at the backside of the Totem Compass.
There are two buttons back there.
The raised button on the right is the Power Button. You can use this to turn your Totem Compass on (click) and off (hold), and also to enter/exit Eco Mode (click while powered-on).
5) SOS Button
The button on the left side is the SOS button. It's in a recessed cavity to make sure that you don't press it by accident.
The SOS button allows you to send SOS Alerts to your Bonds. To send an SOS alert, simply press and hold for 3 seconds. You'll see a little red light begin to blink behind the button, which tells you that you are currently sending an SOS Alert to your Bonds.
The SOS button also allows you to initiate a software update when you triple-click.
The Beauty of Simplicity
Hey there 😊👋
Can you believe how simple that was?
Just five little things to know.
Only three buttons! And one of them is a pretty, glowing Crystal. 😍
We worked so hard to make this device as simple and beautiful as possible.
When you're at a festival, the LAST thing you want to do is think. We do enough thinking all day long in our normal lives.
Festivals are all about FEELING.
Festivals are beautiful experiences, and they're over so quickly. Blink, and you might miss it.
We want people to feel more immersed in the moment.
Screens, apps, phones... They distract you from the beauty that's right in front of you.
And that's not our vibe here at Totem.
We are here to help you feel real again.
To everyone in the Tribe that has supported, encouraged, and loved us along the way... Thank you. So much.
Seriously—you are what makes all this worthwhile.
✌️ + 🩷
the Totem Team.
(P.S. — if this is your first Totem Tuesday, we hiiighly recommend that you go back and check out all the past Totem Tuesdays on our website. Every single decision we’ve made with the product is detailed extensively in past editions. Have fun 😘)
