1) Revamped Totem Compass App 📲
As you may have gathered… today’s updates are a DOUBLE WHAMMY! 💥💥
In addition to Version 4.1 (perhaps our most impactful Totem Compass software update yet), we’ve also got what is easily our biggest Totem Compass App update ever.
The App now includes guided tutorials, helpful tooltips + in-app notifications, and a revamped user interface that makes everything smoother and way more fun ✨

2) 50% Performance Jump!
When I tell you our Engineering team has been COOKING over the holidays... I'm not playing👨🍳🔥
Except instead of prime rib roasts and festive cookies, they’ve been serving up earth-shattering optimizations in the Totem Compass code… resulting in a whopping 50% more RAM 😮💨
Sounds almost too good to be true, doesn't it? You'll see (and feel!) the effects of these changes immediately upon installing Version 4.1:
- ALL processes run up to 4x faster in Compass Mode.
- Devices maintain connectivity to Bonds, Satellites and the Totem Compass App much more effectively.
- Any latency you’ve experienced in high-density Totem areas? That's a thing of the past 💪
Not only does this update make your Totems run as smooth as a baby's bum...
It also opens up the floodgates for us to do some INCREDIBLE things with that extra memory in the future 👀
Most importantly: it unlocks substantial improvements to the Unity Mesh Network—upgrades we thought might have to wait for Gen 2!
Each device can now handle up to 10x the amount of mesh messages (mesh-ages?!), which means way higher potential throughput at music festivals.
And on top of that… this healthier mesh network + extra memory opens the door for us to enable offline Bond Chat through the App very soon 👀💬

3) Bluetooth Software Updates
Boy oh boy, have we been on the edge of our seats waiting to write this section of a Totem Tuesday... 😉
Anyone who's ever updated a Totem Compass knows how much of a big deal this is 😎
New with Version 4.1: we're introducing Single-Tap Software Updates: powered by Bluetooth and available fully over-the-air (OTA).
That means as long as you have cell service, you can update your Totem seamlessly!
To update, just open the Totem Compass App → Compass Settings, and you’ll see a brand-new update menu with multiple options (in their own fun new menu!) 🤓
The best part? The updated Totem Compass App will detect what software version your Totems are running and automatically recommend an update if you’re behind.
Quick note: You’ll need to update the old-fashioned way one last time before Bluetooth updates are enabled on your Totem.
Welcome to the new era of Totem: where everyone will be enjoying the latest and greatest software with ease!
4) In-App Onboarding Tutorials
The most immediately noticeable change when you open the New-Gen Totem Compass App is the Tutorials 😎
These guided flows walk you through everything you need to know—how to pair your Totems, manage your Bonds, use the Map, and unlock many more powerful app features.
And don’t worry… you can skip the Tutorials anytime, and restart them whenever you want a refresher.
This is a huge step for us, because it lays the foundation for something even bigger: developing that same level of step-by-step guidance for the Totem Compass itself 🤯
Soon, we’ll be able to mirror what’s happening on your Compass directly in the App, with a full guided walkthrough that covers things like calibration and real-time navigation.
The goal is simple: anyone should be able to pick up a Totem—whether they’re a brand new Tribemate, borrowing one from a friend, or renting at a festival—and learn the ropes quickly and easily.
Version 4.1 is a major leap toward that future… and we’re on track to have the App fully fleshed out by Festival Season 2026 😎✨
