What Is Paysquad?

Paysquad describes itself as “the buy now, pay together option at checkout.” It’s a payment method that lets a group split a purchase before anyone fronts the full cost. Totem teamed up with Paysquad so it appears right next to the usual payment options at Totem’s checkout.

Here’s the short version of how it works, according to Paysquad’s help center:

• The squad leader is the person who builds the order and starts the Paysquad at checkout.
• Contributors are everyone else. They get a link, open it, and chip in. They don’t need a Paysquad account.
• Contributions go toward the order through Paysquad. They aren’t sent to the squad leader, so nobody ends up holding the group’s money.
• The order is confirmed when the total is covered. Not a moment before.

It isn’t a loan or a buy-now-pay-later plan. Paysquad says it’s built for group purchasing, not individual credit.

How to Split a Totem Bundle With Friends, Step by Step

Step 1: Build Your Group’s Bundle

Head to the Bundle builder and customize the best Bundle for your group size. Choose how many people are in your crew, then pick a Standard or Premium Bundle (more on the difference below). You can choose each person’s Skin color while you’re there.

Not sure everyone agrees on the plan yet? The builder has a Share bundle options with your group button, so you can drop it in the group chat before anyone checks out.

Step 2: Choose Paysquad at Checkout

At checkout, fill in your details as usual. When you reach the payment options, select Paysquad. You’ll be redirected to Paysquad to start your squad.

Paysquad sits alongside the other payment options at Totem’s checkout.

Tip: if you’re signed in to Shop Pay and don’t see Paysquad, choose Check out as guest first, then select Paysquad.

Step 3: Share Your Paysquad Link

Paysquad gives you a link for your squad. Send it wherever your group actually talks: the group chat, a text thread, or the chaotic DM where you’ve been planning the trip for three months.

Only share it with the people you’re buying with. Paysquad notes that anyone with the link can open the squad page and chip in.

Step 4: Everyone Chips In

Each person opens the link, checks the order details, and contributes their part. Nobody needs to download an app. The squad page updates as people chip in, so everyone can see how close you are to the total without anyone sending “did you pay yet?” texts.

Step 5: At 100%, Your Order Ships

What Happens If the Group Doesn’t Reach 100%?

Each Paysquad has a deadline. If the squad doesn’t reach 100% in time, nobody is charged: contributions are only authorized along the way, and the order simply doesn’t go through. Totem doesn’t ship an order until it’s fully covered.

A few ways to keep your squad on track:

• Agree on the plan first. Settle the group size and Bundle before checkout, so nobody is surprised by the link.
• Tell everyone the deadline. Then tell them again. You know your friends.
• Start early. Don’t kick off the squad the night before you leave for the festival.

How do refunds work for a Paysquad order?
